Frequently Asked Questions

What is this HF Antidote Gel used for? ▼

This HF antidote gel is made for emergency first aid treatment of skin burns caused by exposure to hydrofluoric acid (HF). The gel helps to prevent deep tissue damage by binding fluoride ions and minimising calcium extraction from tissue.

How many tubes come in this pack? ▼

This is 12 individual tubes, each containing 25 g of calcium gluconate gel.

When should calcium gluconate gel be applied after HF exposure? ▼

After immediate decontamination (flushing with water), you should apply the calcium gluconate gel as soon as possible. Early application minimises the risk of deeper tissue injury.

How should the antidote gel be applied to the burn site? ▼

It is recommended to first wear the appropriate disposable gloves, and then massage the gel thoroughly onto the affected skin. Continue massaging while repeatedly applying until at least 15 minutes after pain subsides, even if during transport to hospital.

Where should workplaces keep HF gel for safety compliance? ▼

It is strongly recommended to store this gel wherever hydrofluoric acid is used or stored; ideally close to the work area, with clear labelling, suitable PPE and access to emergency water/eyewash.
