Frequently Asked Questions

What fire classes does this extinguisher cover? ▼

This fire extinguisher is rated for Class A, Class B and Class C fires, covering common risks such as burning solids (wood, paper), flammable liquids (petrol, solvents), flammable gases, as well as low voltage electrical fires.

Will the powder work on petrol or oil fires? ▼

The ABC powder effectively smothers Class B fires involving petrol, oil or other volatile liquids.

Can this extinguisher be used on electrical fires? ▼

This fire extinguisher can be used on electrical fires involving equipment up to 1,000 V safely, given that the power is switched off first.

Is the aerosol extinguisher compliant with UK standards? ▼

This extinguisher is certified to BS 6165 and is Kitemark-certified, meeting the UK standards for portable powder extinguishers.

What is its discharge performance? ▼

The discharge time of this fire extinguisher is approx. 6 seconds, with an effective discharge range of 2-3 metres, making it sufficient for small- to medium-size fires, typical of vehicle incidents.

Are there limitations or situations where I should not use it? ▼

This fire extinguisher is not suitable for:
• Class F (cooking oil or fat) fires - a wet chemical extinguisher is required instead.
• Large, high voltage electrical fires (above 1,000 V) - a CO₂ extinguisher is recommended for this.
• Small, poorly ventilated enclosed spaces - powder discharge could impair visibility or cause inhalation risk. In such areas a CO₂ extinguisher or a fire blanket may be preferred.

What if I need a larger powder extinguisher for a workshop or warehouse? ▼

For larger premises or higher risk environments, we recommend the 1 kg ABC Powder Fire Extinguisher, giving increased capacity and longer discharge for wider fire protection coverage.

Can this extinguisher be included in commercial vehicle safety kits? ▼

The compact size, multipurpose rating, and easy mount design make this fire extinguisher appropriate for safety kits in vans, company cars, mobile maintenance units, or site visit vehicles.
