What is this HF Antidote Gel for? ▼
This HF antidote gel is made for the first aid treatment of skin burns caused by Hydrofluoric Acid (HF). The gel helps to neutralise fluoride ions, and stops calcium loss from tissue and bone.
Why is calcium gluconate needed after HF exposure? ▼
Hydrofluoric Acid penetrates skin and binds calcium, which can potentially cause deep tissue or bone damage. Topical calcium gluconate gel minimises this risk by neutralising fluoride and preserves calcium in the affected tissues.
How soon should the HF antidote gel be applied after exposure? ▼
It is recommended to apply the HF antidote gel immediately after flushing the exposed skin with water. Early application of the gel can significantly minimise the burn severity.
How should the gel be applied and for how long? ▼
This gel should be applied using the correct disposable gloves. To apply the gel, massage a generous layer into the burn site and continue until at least 15 minutes after pain subsides.
What storage conditions are recommended? ▼
For optimal performance, it is recommended to store the antidote gel in a cool, dry place. In industrial settings, it is advised to store the gel close to HF-use areas (such as lab or plant), so that it is immediately available on exposure to HF.
What if your workplace handles larger quantities of HF? ▼
For higher risk settings with larger quantities of HF, we recommend the bulk 12 x HF Antidote Gel option.
