Description

In time critical situations having the equipment on hand to dislodge a blockage in the windpipe is essential. The LifeVac Home Kit is designed for use if back blows and abdominal thrusts aren’t sufficient.

Why LifeVac?
Someone can die from choking in under 10 minutes and sustain brain damage in under 6. The UK ambulance service aims for a response time of 8 minutes; if a person is deprived of air for that long, there is a high probability they will suffer brain damage.

According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), around 351 people die from choking each year. However, experts believe this figure underestimates the true impact, as many choking-related deaths are recorded under underlying conditions such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s or Multiple Sclerosis, all of which can impair swallowing.

Key Benefits

  • Multiple sized masks: the LifeVac Home Kit comes with three different sized masks to ensure a secure seal for both paediatric and adult casualties.
  • Practice mask supplied: there is also a mask included in this kit to practice with the device prior to an emergency to ensure that response is quick and efficient.
  • Durable, portable design: the Evolution case ensures that the LifeVac device and masks are well protected and easily portable to the scene of the choking.
  • Certified for use: by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).
  • Non-invasive airway clearance: uses a one way suction mechanism to remove obstructions safely, reducing the risk of injury or pushing the blockage further down.
  • Free replacements: in the unfortunate event that you ever have to use the LifeVac, you are eligible for a free replacement from LifeVac.

The Kit Includes:

  • LifeVac Instruction Booklet – The instruction booklet details how to use LifeVac, and which coloured sticker identifies the size of the mask.
  • LifeVac Unit.
  • 1 Paediatric Mask.
  • 1 Small Child/Adult Mask.
  • 1 Medium Adult (test) Mask.
  • 1 Large Adult Mask.
  • 1 Window/Door Sticker; to easily identify where a LifeVac is stored.
  • Feedback Form; The Feedback Form is to be filled out once the device is used to help raise awareness.

How to Use a LifeVac Anti Choking Device

  • Push and twist the mask into the base of your LifeVac unit.
  • Hold the mask firmly in place over their mouth and nose with your less dominant hand, making sure their head is tilted back.
  • Use your dominant hand on the LifeVac handle, depress and then pull upwards with a short, swift tug (while holding the mask firmly in place).
  • Roll the person onto their side, check their mouth to clear any debris, and repeat the process up to five times if the obstruction is not cleared.

How Does It Work?
LifeVac features two patented discs that accommodate interchangeable mask sizes, recognising that one size does not fit all. It also incorporates a patented one-way valve system that prevents air from being forced through the mask during use.

LifeVac’s non-invasive design ensures that no tubes can push the tongue back or drive the obstruction deeper during a panic situation. This design also prevents tubes from becoming blocked, which could otherwise render the device ineffective if only part of the obstruction has been cleared.

Ideal For

  • Kitchens and dining rooms
  • Households with children or elderly family members
  • Individuals with conditions that affect swallowing, such as Parkinson’s or MS
  • Carers or family members supporting at-risk individuals

It can also be used on the go; however, we offer a dedicated travel kit for those who want to keep a LifeVac in their vehicle or take one with them while travelling, as well as having one available at home.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the LifeVac Home Kit? ▼

The LifeVac Home Kit contains the LifeVac anti-choking device, which is a non-invasive airway clearance device made for use in a choking emergency when standard first aid measures (such as back blows and abdominal thrusts) have failed. It uses a patented one-way valve to generate suction and help remove an obstruction from the airway.

Who can use the anti-choking device? ▼

The LifeVac anti-choking device can be used on adults, children and infants over approximately 10 kg (about 22 lb). Masks in the Home Kit are colour coded to help you select the correct size for the casualty in an emergency.

What is included in the Home Kit? ▼

The Home Kit includes the LifeVac rescue device, a multilingual instruction booklet, adult and paediatric masks, a practice mask, a feedback form and a window/door sticker. For a wall mounted alternative, we recommend the LifeVac Wall Mounted Kit.

How do I use the LifeVac in an emergency? ▼

In an emergency, place the correct mask on the casualty's face to create a seal, push down on the device to engage the one-way valve, then pull up sharply to generate suction and help to clear the airway. It is advised to follow the included instruction booklet provided with the kit.

Do I need training to use this anti-choking kit? ▼

The LifeVac home kit is made to be simple and intuitive for use in emergencies, with a simple and clear instruction booklet included. While formal training isn’t required, familiarising yourself with the instructions beforehand is recommended and useful.
