Frequently Asked Questions

What is an elastic adhesive bandage used for?

The elastic adhesive bandage is made for compression and support in first aid, commonly being used for stabilising sprains, strains, bruises, and keeping non‑adhesive dressings secure without needing bandage tape or safety pins due to its self adhesive ability.

Is it safe to apply the adhesive bandage directly on skin and for how long?

The adhesive bandages have a highly breathable, hypoallergenic adhesive that sticks to skin for extended wear, which reduces the risk of excessive moisture build-up. For a minor cut, it is commonly advised to keep an adhesive bandage on for 24 to 48 hours, or until it becomes wet or dirty. For a larger or deeper wound, you may need to keep the bandage on for 3 to 5 days, and potentially longer if recommended by a medical professional.

Does the 5cm width of this adhesive bandage suit most injury sizes, or should I consider other sizes of bandage?

5cm is a versatile size, being well suited for ankles, wrists or fingers. However, for larger areas such as knees or forearms, consider the elastic adhesive bandage 7.5cm or 10cm option.

How should I apply the elastic adhesive bandage correctly?

To apply the elastic adhesive bandage, start distally from the wound. Stretch the elastic bandage gently and wrap in overlapping, spiralling layers, using the centre guideline on the bandage for an even compression. It is advised to adjust the tension to avoid compromising blood flow. When removing the adhesive bandage, remove slowly, making sure to roll back the bandage on itself rather than pulling away.

How many rolls should I stock for a first aid kit?

It is recommended to keep at least two rolls per first aid kit in small‑to‑medium workplaces. High risk environments or larger workplaces may need more. It could be beneficial to carry out a workplace risk assessment to see the quantity you would require for your specific workplace.
