What should be in a catering or restaurant first aid kit?

A catering first aid kit should include blue detectable plasters and dressings, burn gel and burn dressings, disposable gloves and aprons, wound cleansing wipes and eye wash, alongside the contents of a standard HSE or BS 8599-1 workplace kit. Burns, scalds and cuts are the most common kitchen injuries, so burn care and bleeding control are priorities.

Why are first aid plasters in kitchens blue?

Plasters used in catering are blue because blue does not occur naturally in most food, making a detached plaster easy to spot. Many are also metal detectable, so they can be identified by food production metal detectors, helping to meet food hygiene and HACCP requirements.

Are catering first aid kits a legal requirement in the UK?

Yes. Under the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981, all UK workplaces, including restaurants and kitchens, must provide adequate first aid equipment, facilities and trained personnel based on a first aid needs assessment. Food businesses must also meet food hygiene standards.

Do you offer bulk first aid supplies for restaurant groups?

Yes. We offer bulk discounts, purchase orders and instant credit for restaurant groups, hotels, pubs and contract caterers. Contact our team for a tailored quote.
