Frequently Asked Questions

What is the capacity of your 5 litre yellow sharps bin?

This sharps bin holds an outstanding 5 litres, which gives a 67% increase over the previous 4 litre model, which is perfect for moderate to high sharps use in clinical settings or environments.

What sharps bin colours indicate different waste types?

The yellow lid signifies disposal for sharps contaminated with medicinal agents or biohazardous materials. The grey and yellow combination is compliant with UK standards for clinical waste.

How does the disposal process work with your yellow sharps bin?

Once the bin is full, the sharps bin should be securely locked and disposed via an authorised clinical waste provider, usually by incineration, following UN3291 and EWC code guidelines. It is highly advised to comply with these guidelines, as disposing of them in another way could lead to contamination or injury.

What safety features does the 5l sharps bin include?

This 5 litre sharps bin has Dual Protect Pro™ to stop hand contact when disposing of needles and sharps, as well as a wide aperture with a clear overfill indicator. This yellow sharps bin is also made from recycled polypropylene, which allows for excellent puncture resistance and a low carbon footprint.

Is this 5 litre sharps bin certificated for clinical use?

This sharps bin is made to be compliant with ISO 23907-1:2019, UN3291, and is completely suitable for sharp items contaminated with medicinal or biohazardous substances.

Can I buy smaller sizes if 5 litres is too large?

We have a wide range of sharps bin sizes, including the 0.6 litre, 1 litre, and 2 litre sharps bins, allowing you to choose a size that fits your clinical workflow.

What advice is there for using a 5 litre sharps bin?

The HSE advises to dispose of sharps bins when they are three-quarters full or have reached the fill line. After locking the bin, it should be collected and further incinerated or disposed of safely.
